Features of JH Audio JH16v2 Pro Universal

  • Revamped earphone housings

Of the approximately 33,000 pairs of ear mold data that JH Audio holds for custom IEM production, approximately 1,000 pairs were used as samples. We designed the new earphone housings to provide a more comfortable fit. In addition, the length and angle of the nozzle have been reviewed to achieve an even better fit.

  • Unique mini-quad driver configuration "soundrIVe Technology

JH Audio's patented "soundrIVe Technology," a unique mini-quad driver configuration (four drivers), ensures a bandwidth of up to 23kHz.

  • Unique tube waveguide "freqphase Technology"

This is a patented technology that precisely controls the time axis and phase of each bandwidth in a multiple driver configuration. The unique tube waveguide ensures that each driver's signal arrives within 0.01 milliseconds and performs its role as an IEM properly.

  • Variable bass output adjustable cable

Variable bass" function on the cable allows the user to adjust the low frequency range of L/R by themselves.

  • Unique 4-pin cable with locking mechanism

Uniquely developed 4-pin aluminum cable connector provides a secure and strong connection. It also protects from sweat and dust.

Sound quality description

In this review, I use the standard eartips size L and drive it with the FiiO M15.

The JH Audio JH16v2 Pro Universal has a sound signature that emphasizes the lower midrange with a concave upper midrange, and the amount of low frequency can be adjusted with a switch in the middle of the cable. The following review is done at the high-frequency setting, as the sound balance is better when the earbuds are set at their most high-frequency setting.

Personally, I find it hard to believe that these earphones cost over $1000; if you are a JH Audio devotee, it might not be a bad idea to buy them as an offering. However, most people would have a much more decent and affordable experience buying earphones that offer excellent sound quality at a lower price, such as the JVC HA-AE5T, for example, than buying these. (1/20th the price of the JH16v2 Pro Universal!)

The reason why we say this is that you will understand immediately if you actually listen to and compare the recording signatures. It is faster for you to understand by hearing it with your ears than by saying it here. There are many people out there who think that fully wireless earphones sound worse than wired earphones, but this is a gross anachronism, and there are usually fully wireless earphones under $100 that sound better than high-brand wired earphones costing $1000 or more.

Please see here for detailed reviews on sound quality.

Lows / Bass

The low frequency range of the JH16v2 Pro Universal is not something you would pay over 100,000 yen to hear. Even at the highest setting, the low frequencies tend to be noticeable, with a slight sense of being overshadowed by the midrange, but as you tweak the switch, the low frequencies expand more and more.

Basically, the more you tweak the switch, the warmer and boomy it gets, and I personally don't know what this switch is for.

Mids

Frankly, it's a terrible midrange, and JH should change tuners. The sound from this so bad midrange is over-compressed, cramped, uninspiring, and has a weird tonal modulation.

I know there are many KZ and TRN multidollar models under $100 that sound terrible (Of course I am not saying that all of them are bad, there are KZ and TRN multi-driver IEMs that I personally like.), but JH Audio sells them with a $1000+ price tag. No wonder KZ and TRN sound so affordable. I paid $1000 to hear such a terrible sound.

Highs / Treble

It is also a bad habit of JH Audio to tune the sound to have an unusually high sense of clarity in the high frequency range, which is also done by SHURE, etc. When the sound is tuned to have an excessively high sense of definition, the sound sounds clearer and more detailed and delicate, which we feel improves the satisfaction level of lightly listened impressions. As a result, the impression at in-store listening will improve, making it easier to sell.

However, adjustments must be made extremely carefully, as they can easily have a negative impact on the sense of localization, the natural connection of sounds, and the expression of overtones. However, in every JH Audio model I have heard so far, the high frequency range sounds very unnatural because the appropriate adjustments have not been made.

If you listen to the LETSHUOER S12, RAPTGO HOOK-X, or final A3000, you will hear a good example of a good engineer meticulously adjusting the high frequencies.

You know those earphones that sound good in a slightly noisy shop but don't sound good at all when you go home and listen to them carefully in a quiet environment? This is the reason why.

The high frequency range of the JH16v2 Pro Universal is lacking in airiness due to a significant lack of extension.

Sound quality general comment
  • Original Sound Fidelity: B+
  • Recommendation: D-
  • Personal preference: D-

The JH Audio JH16v2 Pro Universal is a mediocre or below mediocre model that generally sounds below its price except for the resolution, which meets the price level. It is basically a waste of money to spend more than $1000 on this.

There are many models that are much better than this earphone within $100, so it is better to forget about the existence of this earphone unless you fall in love with it.

JH Audio JH16v2 Pro Universal

Sound quality features

Pros
  • High resolution
  • Adjustable low frequency range

Cons
  • Clear feeling that is not good
  • Unnatural texture
  • Poor dynamic range sound as if overcompressed
  • Overall, the sound quality is not worth the price.
  • Inefficient low-frequency adjustment function (the more low-frequency the sound, the worse the sound balance becomes).
  • Low fidelity of original sound

General comment

For some, the JH Audio JH16v2 Pro Universal may be a pretty great choice. However, the sound is not something I would highly recommend to many people, and I don't believe these are made as earphones for proper music listening. Was there some kind of mistake? If you like the sound of compressed music with more compressor, I can recommend it, but if you are looking for high quality earphones for HiFi, this is not that kind of product at all.
