FloAudio Lily

Top: at 0Ω drive, Bottom: at 85Ω drive

Sound quality description

In this review, I use the standard eartips size L and drive it with the FiiO M15.

Given its official frequency response, FloAudio Lily is actually optimized to be driven by amplifiers with an output impedance of 80 ohms or higher. Therefore, when driven by a typical DAP or smartphone, the sound will not be what the brand originally intended Lily to sound like.

When Lily is driven by a typical DAP or smartphone, Lily has a rich, warm rich sound with a full midrange, and the vocal sound image and midrange instrumental sounds sound louder. On the other hand, when driven into 80 ohms or higher, Lily will sound more monitor-like, neutral, and balanced.

In principle, the following review will be conducted at 85 ohms, which is close to the brand's original sound assumption. The evaluation values are basically based on the 85-ohm drive, and the values for the 0-ohm drive are also shown in parentheses.

Please see here for detailed reviews on sound quality.

FloAudio Lily

Lows / Bass

Single-balanced armature driver earphones are basically not expected to provide a sense of range in the low frequencies, and the FloAudio Lily is basically the same way, falling short in depth.

Driven at 85 ohms, the Lily's low frequencies roll off like a monitor speaker that is sufficiently linear and straight down.

Drum kicks are well defined but lack depth, sounding shallow and tap-like, and the electric bass is a bit less blackness and a little bright.

When driven into 0 ohms, the drum kicks have more weight and impact, so low-frequency lovers may find the 0-ohm drive more pleasing.

Mids

When driven into 85 ohms, Lily's sound balance is almost completely neutral; when driven into 0 ohms, the sound is thick and rich.

One problem with balanced armature drivers in general is a lack of transparency in the midrange, and Lily is no exception. On the other hand, the FloAudio brings out the clarity that is characteristic of balanced armature drivers, so even though there are many incidental sounds and the separation from the background is not very good, it excels in reproducing a sense of three-dimensionality.

Vocals sound holographic despite their blurred contours, and instrumental sounds are harmonically slightly blended into the space, yet still sufficiently three-dimensional.

The only thing to consider, however, is the lack of freshness in the reproduction of textures and the lack of rawness in the instrumental sounds.

When driven into 0 ohms, the midrange has more depth and resonance, and the sound is fuller and richer. Because the high frequency range is lower, the richness of the midrange is also higher, and a sweeter atmosphere is created. If you want to relax and enjoy music with a feeling of being enveloped, I recommend driving at 0 ohms.

Highs / Treble

FloAudio Lily's high frequencies at 85 ohms drive have a natural roll-off that well reflects the sound field when listening to speakers with a sense of forward localization.

Peaks are also well tuned to be unobtrusive, which is not only safe for those who are sensitive to high frequencies, but also natural in its connection of overtone expression. The definition is also well maintained, and there is no shortage of luminence. Detail reproduction can be expected to be of a very high standard. Only the sharpness of the vocal sibilance could be a bit strong, but I don't mind it too much.

Generally, balanced armature drivers have a narrower range than dynamic drivers, so you cannot expect much in the way of high-frequency extension, but Lily's high-frequency extension seems to be at or slightly above the average level for a typical single dynamic driver.

This makes it a good choice in its price range in terms of extension for wind and string music.

On the other hand, high frequency extension shrinks considerably when driven into 0 ohms, instrumental extension is much poorer, and definition is somewhat lacking. Still, the sense of edge and definition remains at a rather high level, so you should not feel a lack of construction or detail.

Sound quality general comment
  • Original Sound Fidelity: A+ (A-)
  • Recommendation: A+
  • Personal preference: A

FloAudio Lily proves that FloAudio can create good sound not only with dynamic drivers, but also with balanced armature drivers. Despite its relatively low price, the Lily successfully brings out the high resolution that is the beauty of a balanced armature driver, while providing a range comparable to that of a single dynamic driver.

blog.ear-phone-review.com

The overall tuning is well balanced, and it should be clear that FloAudio has solid knowledge in this area.

However, it is highly questionable that the output impedance of the drive requirements is set at a high level that is clearly not common practice. While this creates a side benefit of being able to enjoy a variety of sounds, this kind of approach only confuses the novice. A sufficiently knowledgeable enthusiast may be able to drive it properly on his own, but it would be unfriendly to beginners.

FloAudio Lily

Sound quality features

Pros
  • Excellent sound image consistency
  • Excellent texture
  • Good range
  • Excellent original sound fidelity
  • Lustrous
  • Comfortable to listen to
  • Monitor-like, linear bass
  • Warmth
  • Safe highs
  • Natural overtone expression
  • Nostalgic sound
  • Speaker-like localization
  • Enjoy two or more types of sound

Cons
  • Unfriendly impedance design
  • Lack of transparency
  • Lacks in depth of low frequency range

General comment

The FloAudio Lily have a balanced, near-neutral sound signature and are expected to have a monitor-like sound balance with high resolution. However, they are not suitable for beginners, as they require some ingenuity in driving in order to hear with the tuning the brand has given the Lily. Of course, when plugged into a DAP or smartphone, Lily delivers a full, rich sound, which is appealing in its own right, but its true value is demonstrated when driven properly.

blog.ear-phone-review.com

The Cadenza is a single dynamic driver IEM utilizing a large 10mm Beryllium diaphragm driver. Beryllium diaphragm drivers are still considered the pinnacle of dynamic drivers in speakers, headphones, and earphones.

The diaphragms of dynamic drivers are the moving membranes that produce the sound driven by magnets within the driver. Thus, the thinner, lighter, and more stiff the membranes are, the faster responses the diaphragm can achieve, resulting in higher audio resolution and clarity across the frequency range.

Kiwi Ears Cadenza

Of all the materials utilized in the audio industry, Beryllium metal has the greatest tensile strength and surface tension, producing a premium sound often characterized by an incredibly powerful and responsive bass impact, rich mids, and crystal clear trebles.

Audiophile Sound Balance

The Cadenza has been acoustically tuned to produce a balanced sound signature characteristic of modern audiophile standards. This was achieved through a custom designed housing structure which was 3D printed to fit the 10mm Beryllium driver. The bass has been adjusted to retain the defining character of beryllium drivers, with resounding impact force and attack speed.

Kiwi Ears Cadenza

But with a quicker bass decay, the mids are able to remain natural and free of muddyness or bloat. The mids sound rich and lush, and incredibly detailed, thanks to the speed of the beryllium driver. The treble response reflects a Harman-reference standard style, with a natural curvature that sounds natural and free of fatigue, but still full of micro-details and full of air.

Kiwi Ears Cadenza

Detachable 3.5mm IEM Cable

The Cadenza features a 2-pin connector for use with a variety of cables. This allows customization of your IEM-cable combinations, as well as extends the longevity of the Cadenza. The Cadenza comes standard with a 4-core braided copper cable with a 3.5mm single-ended termination for use with most smartphones, computers, and audio devices.

Sound quality description

In this review, I use the standard eartips size L and drive it with the FiiO M15.

Kiwi Ears Cadenza has a balanced, near neutral sound signature.

Please see here for detailed reviews on sound quality.

Kiwi Ears Cadenza

Lows / Bass

The Kiwi Ears Cadenza's low frequencies reach quite deep.

It is sufficiently linear, weighty, and deep, and the thick, robust drum kicks are not short on gravitas. The weighty impact is palpable. Rumble is also generally at a level where one does not feel shortchanged.

The electric bass has sufficient depth and breadth, with a touch of blackness.

In general, the bass has enough volume and depth to satisfy bass enthusiasts.

Mids

The midrange is almost completely neutral. Texture is fairly accurate and near perfect, and transparency is of a satisfactory level, though it may sound slightly tilted toward warmth.

Contour and crunch are quite solid, and the midrange construction sounds solid enough. The electric guitars are well colored and sound glossy and colorful. However, perhaps because the definition is a bit low, the bite of the guitar is slightly less pronounced, and you may feel that the bite of the phrases is not as sharp as it should be.

Vocals also tend to sound plump, and the midrange ambience is a bit fuzzy in terms of separation, resulting in an overall harmonic sound. Airiness is also quite lacking, and the midrange tends to be thicker.

Highs / Treble

The high frequencies of the Kiwi Ears Cadenza are tuned to roll off nicely with a speaker-like sense of forward localization, but they lack energy compared to typical standards. For many, therefore, there is a lack of luminance at the correct volume, causing a slight difficulty in the sense of detail.

Hi-hat coloration is subdued or feeling of warmth, sounding somewhat close to the background with a lack of presence.

Extensibility is lacking. As a result, the atmosphere lacks exhilaration, has a sense of ceiling, and is generally somewhat sweet.

It is more than safe enough for those who are sensitive to high frequencies, and is highly recommended for those who do not like sting or sharpness. People who tend to listen loudly may also prefer this level of high frequency. I am more of a safe-listening type of person and listen at less than the proper volume, so this high frequency is a bit insufficient for me.

Sound quality general comment
  • Original Sound Fidelity: A+
  • Recommendation: S-
  • Personal preference: S-

Kiwi Ears Cadenza is a well-balanced overall listening earphone with accurate texture, sufficiently deep lows, and smooth, stable highs for comfortable listening.

In general, you can expect above-average to excellent performance in its price range, and the overall standard is well within reach of the high-end class.

General comment

Kiwi Ears Cadenza is a well-balanced earphones in terms of sound, with sufficiently deep lows, smooth and pleasing highs, and mellow, glossy-sounding mids. It is a highly recommended product in its price range and can be an attractive option for those who are particularly sensitive to high frequencies and bass lovers.

With over 10 years of professional experience in HiFi industry, QKZ has been known for its extraordinary tuning and production technique. The newly launched earphone from QKZ is a collaboration with trustworthy HBB (Hawaiian Bad Boy from “Bad Guy Good Audio Reviews”). Sound quality description

In this review, I use the standard eartips size L and drive it with the FiiO M15.

The QKZ x HBB has a balanced, near-neutral sound signature with an emphasis on the midrange.

Please see here for detailed reviews on sound quality.

QKZ x HBB

Lows / Bass

The low frequencies of the QKZ x HBB reach quite deep.

It is linear enough, weighty and deep enough, and while it is possible to find it slightly lacking in rumble, there is little shortage.

The drum kicks are sufficiently weighty and impactful, but sound slightly less tight and expansive to me.

Electric bass has sufficient depth and breadth, with a touch of blackness.

In general, it will fully satisfy low-frequency enthusiasts, but heavy bass enthusiasts may want it to go a little deeper.

Mids

The midrange is almost completely neutral. Texture is fairly accurate and near perfect, and transparency is of a satisfactory level, though it may lean slightly toward warmth.

In general, the midrange tends to sound rounded and a bit lacking in edge, due to a slight lack of energy in the mid to high frequencies. This gives the impression that guitars and snares lack sharpness, but pianos and wind music seem mellow and melodious. The midrange is spotlighted and focused in slightly darker spaces and sounds brighter in general.

The midrange sounds lush enough, but lacks definition, so the sense of separation tends to be a bit weak, and the overall sound is smooth, blended, and harmonic.

Highs / Treble

The high frequencies of the QKZ x HBB are tuned to roll off nicely with a speaker-like sense of forward localization, but they lack energy compared to typical standards. For many, therefore, there is a lack of brightness at the correct volume, causing a slight difficulty in the sense of detail.

Hi-hat coloration is subdued or feeling of warmth, sounding somewhat close to the background with a lack of presence.

Extension is quite good for the price range, with more than adequate air and good disconnect, and breath and cymbal crashes are fine and exhilarating and excellent, but lack sparkle, are not flashy, and sound subdued and sober.

  • Original Sound Fidelity: A
  • Recommendation: A
  • Personal preference: B+

The QKZ x HBB is not a bad choice if you like a mellow sound overall. The high frequencies are very safe, but I think they tend to be a bit lacking for most people. It is comfortable to listen to, but it is not florid or tight.

It is an attractive option if you want to listen more low-frequency oriented, but in a close price range, the FloAudio Calla seems to be a generally better choice for many people.

blog.ear-phone-review.com

Calla's high frequency range is not as extended as that of QKZ x HBB, so it is not a perfect top competitor, but it is generally superior in terms of low frequency depth and overall original sound fidelity.

Sound quality features
Pros
  • Excellent sound image consistency

  • Good original sound fidelity
  • Good high-frequency extension
  • Mellow
  • Elegant and chic
  • Comfortable to listen to
  • Heavy
  • Warm
  • Safe in the high range
  • Natural overtone expression
  • Speaker-like localization

Cons
  • Poor coloration
  • Poor sense of separation
  • Sound a little too rounded, lacks a sense of build
  • Lack of definition

General comment

The QKZ x HBB earphones have a beautiful sound with sufficiently deep bass, good high-frequency extension, and mellow midrange. It is a relatively recommended choice in its price range, but it should be noted that it has many shortcomings, including a lack of detail and contouring.

Build quality

Build quality meets the price standard.

It is very beautifully and sturdily built, and the molding is a level up from TinHiFi's traditional IEMs. It would not surprise me if the body is considered to be in the $100 class or better, as Tin's technical prowess is rapidly growing.

Fit

The fit is good.

Well sculpted, but there is a slight strong contact with the ear. The metal shell is hard against the ear and heavy, so prolonged use may cause a slight feeling of strain or pain.

TinHiFi C2 Mech Warrior

Sound quality description

In this review, I use the standard eartips size L and drive it with the FiiO M15.

The TinHiFi C2 has an almost perfectly neutral sound signature. However, energy is a bit weak in both the high and low frequencies, making it more midrange in balance.

Please see here for detailed reviews on sound quality.

TinHiFi C2 Mech Warrior

Lows / Bass

The TinHiFi C2's low frequencies are sufficiently linear and quantitative to balance the midrange and sound quite monitor-like.

Depth is a bit lacking, but attenuation is mild and not too lacking. However, it is not at a level that will satisfy low-frequency lovers.

The bass drum is not bad in terms of tightness, but it lacks a little weight, and sounds more like a slap or tap than a thump.

The electric bass also tends to give a bright impression and may be slightly lacking in terms of blackness.

Conversely, the perspective is good and the rhythmic feel is easy to understand, so those who want to hear a slightly lighter balance may like the galloping atmosphere.

Mids

The midrange of the TinHiFi C2 is not only almost completely neutral in sound balance, but it also offers exceptional clarity. It also has a good sense of focus and resolution within the overall sound, so it sounds clear.

However, with the proper fit, it can easily lack a sense of detail, and while the sound's contour and solidity are relatively solid, the lack of definition can easily give the impression of good three-dimensionality but not a good sense of separation. (For those who are curious about the term "with the proper fit". I should add that, based on my test with HATS, I am able to improve the detail by fitting it looser than the proper position, and this is actually confirmed by hearing it myself.)

Acoustic guitar textures are very natural, the sound image is well connected, and the overall consistency is high, but the coloration is rather subdued.

The low energy in the high frequencies results in low brightness for luminance, so you get the impression of a slightly darker space with a hint of mid-range spotlight.

How does it compare to competing models?

First, the C2 can be expected to perform about even with the TinHiFi T3 Plus, which is generally considered the higher-end model; the T3 Plus may seem smoother in the midrange, and many will expect a more natural feel in terms of overtone expression, but the C2 is likely to sound slightly better in terms of range. C2 will feel fresher and crisper sounding.

blog.ear-phone-review.com

TinHiFi C2 vs TinHiFi T3 Plus (Frequency Response)

TinHiFi C2 vs TinHiFi T3 Plus (Frequency Response)

On the other hand, in the same price range there is the Tripowin Lea with its superior midrange; against the Lea, the C2, which offers equal resolution, an equally good midrange sound curve, but superior range and overall balance, is for many an almost perfect top competitor. If you are buying now, I recommend the C2 over the Lea. C2 is even better in terms of build quality.

blog.ear-phone-review.com

TinHiFi C2 vs Tripowin Lea (Frequency Response)

TinHiFi C2 vs Tripowin Lea (Frequency Response)

How does it fare against Tripowin Mele? In terms of transparency, the two are almost evenly matched, and the perfection of the midrange cannot be easily judged as a winner. The Mele may be a step ahead in overall detail, but the C2 has better range and can be expected to sound more like a legitimate studio tuning. the C2 is more monitor-like and has better original fidelity, and I personally think the C2 is better for most people.

blog.ear-phone-review.com

TinHiFi C2 vs Tripowin × HBB Mele (Frequency Response)

TinHiFi C2 vs Tripowin × HBB Mele (Frequency Response)

Highs / Treble

The TinHiFi C2's high frequencies are good extended, which is very good for its low price.

However, attenuation has been added for speaker-like localization, and its energy is set lower than the standard amount for most of the highs. This tends to result in a sound that lacks detail and delicacy in the high frequency range, making it somewhat unreliable as studio monitors.

On the other hand, the high frequency adjustment is quite safe for those sensitive to high frequencies. In some cases, only the sibilance may be perceived as somewhat strong.

Sound quality general comment
  • Original Sound Fidelity: A+
  • Recommendation: S+
  • Personal preference: S+

The quality of single dynamic drivers is improving, and they can provide very good quality sound at lower prices. At least when it comes to the midrange, dynamic drivers are currently the most promising in terms of performance, and they are certainly superior in terms of cost. Balanced armature types are highly distorted, and planar drive types do not yet seem to have reached the level of dynamic drivers with respect to transparency (the closest exception is the Shuoer S12).

blog.ear-phone-review.com

So audiophiles as of 2022 do not actually have to pay a lot of money to hear the highest sound quality. At least in terms of midrange reproduction, low-cost single dynamic drivers are outperforming high-end multi-driver hybrids. Modern dynamic drivers are very pure in the midrange while not lacking much in terms of range.

Therefore, incorporating a balanced armature driver to improve range and resolution can easily lead to a sound that is ultimately tainted, and trying to squash minor flaws can result in bigger flaws. In other words, it often actually leads to worse overall performance. So, if they can't tune the sound very well (or if they can't incorporate the distortion characteristics of BAs into the sound), they can achieve a higher standard of sound with a single dynamic driver instead of using a hybrid.

That is why, rather than looking for a model that costs more than $100, it is currently much more likely that you will be much happier if you get a model that costs around $50, such as the TinHiFi C2, which is superior in terms of both build quality and sound. This is one of the models I unquestionably recommend for audiophiles with a discerning ear.

TinHiFi C2 Mech Warrior

Sound quality features

Pros
  • Good sound balance
  • Studio tuning-like
  • Comfortable to listen to
  • Lustrous sound
  • Excellent fidelity
  • Excellent resolution
  • Transparent and clear midrange
  • Good focus in the midrange
  • Good range
  • Speaker-like localization

Cons
  • Lack of detail-definition
  • Lack of luminance
  • Low frequencies do not seem to be at a level that would satisfy low frequency enthusiasts in terms of quantity and depth

General comment

The TinHiFi C2 is one of TinHiFi's best earphones to date, offering a very good studio-tuning-like neutral sound at a very low price. In terms of build quality, TinHiFi has also made significant progress, and in general, I am amazed that they can produce such a great product at this price.

Sound quality description

In this review, I use the standard eartips size L and drive it with the FiiO M15.

The KZ PR1 HiFi has a sound signature that is close to neutral, yet very flat and high in original fidelity.

Please see here for detailed reviews on sound quality.

Lows / Bass

The KZ PR1 HiFi's reach is sufficiently linear and deep enough, with monitor-like decay.

It has a very good sense of perspective, and bass drum kicks have a natural weight and rhythmic nimbleness that makes them sound lively and vibrant.

The electric bass is a bit bright for my personal taste, but it has depth and sounds black enough.

It sounds slightly expansive to me, not deep enough to satisfy heavy bass enthusiasts, and potentially lacking in tightness. However, like a monitor speaker, it has a relatively good low frequency range, with a decay that is linear enough but stonking without going too deep. Distortion is also more than sufficiently low.

Mids

In terms of the midrange sound curve, KZ is already at a mature level, no less than the best manufacturers. At least their tuning has evolved considerably over the past year or so, and we can confirm a very good sound balance even on the KZ PR1 HiFi.

The textures are very natural and atmospheric, and the beauty of the electric guitar, with its rich distortion, is enchanting.

However, there are clear shortcomings in this mid-range, which is heavily distorted and has a lot of incidental sounds, which is greatly lacking in terms of transparency and greatly inferior in terms of reproducing a sense of three-dimensionality.

So, for example, even though the sound balance is very good, acoustic instruments such as wind and string music sound more lively and lifelike to me with earphones that have a more transparent sound, such as the QCY T17.

blog.ear-phone-review.com

When I saw the frequency response of these earphones online, I was very excited about their sound balance, so this lack of transparency is a real disappointment to me.

Highs / Treble

The KZ PR1 HiFi excels in the high frequencies to an unprecedented level. It is very extended and open, detail sounds rich and delicate, and airiness is fine.

However, many people may find it strangely forward and lacking in depth, as high frequencies are not often heard so clearly in everyday spaces.

For me, the highs are almost perfect and sound very monitor-like. Strings and wind overtones are extended very naturally and are heard cleanly all the way to the edges, and the dispersion is very good, so it sounds bright, delicate, clear, and crisp, with almost no harshness.

Because of the high pierce, s-sounds and sibilance are a little too strong, but they are not unpleasant because of the good sound transmission, but depending on the sound source and volume, you may be concerned that they tend to sound harsh (Keep in mind that I usually listen at a lower volume).

I was very excited to see these high-frequency characteristics beforehand, and they are even better than I expected.

Sound quality general comment
  • Original Sound Fidelity: S-
  • Recommendation: A
  • Personal preference: A

The KZ PR1 HiFi is an excellent monitor earphones that really demonstrates that KZ has achieved a very high level of technological capability, and its excellent high-frequency characteristics and range make it the most original sound faithful imaging you can expect in this price range.

However, it is true that the significant lack of transparency makes it somewhat lacking overall, and compared to rivals such as the JVC HA-AE5T, for example, it seems to me to be nowhere near as good.

General comment

The KZ PR1 HiFi is an excellent earphones in terms of sound balance with excellent range and original sound fidelity. It also has excellent dumping characteristics as is typical of plane-driven drivers, and is quite attractive in terms of sound quality, but unfortunately, it is quite lacking in transparency. Contrary to its apparent sound balance, these earphones are somewhat habit-forming and are not suitable for everyone. Still, the build quality is at a very good level for the price range, making them a promising investment.

Personally, I am a bit disappointed.
