KZ DQS

KZ DQS

The KZ DQS is an excellent earphone that offers deep bass and a balanced, near-neutral sound signature at a low price. While the build quality is not bad and can be expected to provide general over-priced satisfaction, the resolution is a bit lacking.

To improve the low-frequency performance of the KZ DQS, a four-layer copper-clad aluminum voice coil, normally used in professional speakers and earphones, is used to significantly improve bass and high-frequency performance. Compared to conventional copper voice coils, the new voice coil has superior conductivity and is lighter in weight.

The magnetic gap of dynamic units generally available on the market is only about 0.3 mm. In contrast, the new dynamic type unit developed by KZ surpasses about 0.15mm, and its conversion efficiency far surpasses that of its competitors.

Final Words

China has become the "world's factory" of the audio industry, where new products are being created every day and new brands are being created and grown. China's audio industry is still a mixed bag, and by no means all of it is good, but audio research is advancing at a faster pace than anywhere else in the world, and the quality of the products is becoming top-notch. Major Chinese brands are practically surpassing major Japanese brands in terms of quality.

In the area of sound quality as well, Chinese manufacturers, who are eager to research, are beginning to produce high-quality sound based on solid research, and the more competent audiophiles are now choosing Chinese earphones. It is painful to say, but the days when Japanese domestic brands were in a glorious position are over, and the industry has begun to change. In the earphone industry, the world's leading edge is coming from China.

This is clearly evidenced by the fact that all of the models introduced here were actually supported by audio reviewers with solid insight and a large number of audiophiles.

Latest Best Planar Magnetic Chi-fi In Ear Monitors Collection

Latest Planar Magnetic Chi-fi IEMs Collection

Latest Best Planar Magnetic Chi-fi IEMs Collection

IEM manufacturing technology is advancing day by day, especially in the last few years, with technological innovations in materials and driver construction. This article features earphones with planar drivers, which are popular for their unique and homogeneous sound.

Planar magnetic drivers have many advantages in terms of sound quality, but they are difficult to miniaturize and implement, and until now have only been used in high-end headphones. It is only recently that implementation in earphone-sized products has become possible.

What is a Planar Magnetic Driver?

Planar Drivers, or Planar Magnetic Drivers, are capable of providing ultimate clarity over a wide frequency response range with ultra-low distortion, thanks to a diaphragm material suspended uniformly between powerful magnetic fields. They can also provide very fast response times with little or no transient error in the output.

平面駆動型ドライバー

Operating Mechanism

The operating mechanism of the planar magnetic driver is a combination of electrostatic and dynamic mechanisms. The driver unit consists of an ultra-thin, flexible membrane suspended between two powerful permanent magnets. Sound is produced by the rapid movement of this ultra-thin film within the active magnetic field. They can produce a natural sound response with ultra-low electronic and harmonic distortion. They require additional power compared to dynamic and balanced armature types and are much larger, making them very difficult to implement in a hybrid driver setup. The latest products with planar magnetic drivers include the TINHIFI P2.

Advantages of Planar Magnetic Drivers

The main advantage of planar magnetic drivers is very low distortion over a wide frequency range. You will experience ultra-clean natural sound response with clear vocals.

Disadvantages of planar-magnetic drivers

Planar-magnetic drivers are usually more costly than balanced-armature or dynamic drivers. They are also larger in size and require more power to drive properly.

Moondrop Stellaris

Moondrop is one of the most popular Chi-fi IEM brands. For the first time, this very popular brand has released the Moondrop Stellaris with planar drivers.

Moondrop Stellaris
Moondrop Stellaris

RAPTGO HOOK-X

The RAPTGO HOOK-X is the world's first hybrid in-ear monitor with a configuration that combines planar and piezoelectric (PZT) drivers. These two drivers are the most sensational driver technologies in the audio industry, yet they have never before been used together in an IEM format. MUSE HiFi Power

MUSE HiFi Power is the latest planar-driven earphone released by the up-and-coming audio brand.

MUSE has recalibrated the structure of regular planar-driven drivers, creating a different acoustic structure for the nanoscale diaphragm and perfectly combining asymmetric magnetic circuits and customized acoustic brackets to form low distortion, accurate imaging, and transparent sound. This allows for a true hi-fi experience.

MUSE HiFi Power

The planar magnetic driver developed specifically for Power solves the common problem of planar magnetic drivers being hard to drive by allowing the airflow in the developed chamber to make the driver run smoother and more stable during the physical spatial correction of the unit. 14.5 mm planar magnetic drivers, while maximizing their performance and eliminating the need for large driving forces.

MUSE created a dedicated chamber for the driver, calculated the optimal placement from the driver to the nozzle, and pressure-relieved the front cavity at different locations to eliminate pressure on the eardrums and further improve the performance of the diaphragm. This allows Power to reproduce a balanced and beautiful sound.

Final Words

Planar-driven earphones offer a smooth, low-distortion sound that is unique and comfortable to listen to. Together with electrostatic earphones, it is becoming one of the current market drivers. This is especially refreshing for those who are accustomed to the artificial, dry sound of balanced armatures.

If you are looking for a natural, well-connected sound in the midrange, you may be happier with the planar drive type.

(Chi-fi IEM impression) Open Audio Mercury 2.0: Improved high-frequency characteristics enhance overall sound balance and resolution

OpenAudio Mercury 2.0

OpenAudio Mercury 2.0

Open Audio is a Chinese earphone brand that is rapidly gaining recognition for its very good products.

Although their debut work, Witch, did not do well, their second work, Mercury, received great acclaim for its beautiful sound design and exploded in popularity, and their third work, Alkaid, achieved a high-quality, high-resolution, authentic sound that rivals or surpasses that of the best manufacturers.

blog.ear-phone-review.com

blog.ear-phone-review.com

blog.ear-phone-review.com

It is a very high-profile manufacturer that is currently undergoing rapid growth.

OpenAudio Mercury goes even further!

Open Audio's Mercury has been a big seller at a relatively affordable price, and now Open Audio has made a minor update to the Mercury to further improve its sound quality, Open Audio Mercury 2.0.

This 2.0 is currently being brushed up, and this evaluation unit may have different specifications than the final version.

For this reason, we will briefly introduce the evolutionary points of 2.0 based on the evaluation machine.

Features of OpenAudio Mercury 2.0
  • Appearance unchanged
  • Improved high-frequency characteristics
  • Improved overall sound balance
  • Improved resolution

OpenAudio Mercury 2.0

OpenAudio Mercury 2.0

OpenAudio Mercury 2.0

OpenAudio Mercury 2.0 retains the wonderful midrange ambience of Mercury, which was well received, especially for female vocals, but has been improved to add subtlety and sparkle with an increased presence of high frequencies.

This allows vocal consonants to be heard more clearly, breaths to be captured in greater detail, and vocals to sound more lifelike.

This has also improved the overall fidelity and sound balance.

The overall resolution has also improved by about 8% in my measurement evaluation, and I have confirmed that the sound is more transparent, especially in the mid-range.

No change in appearance

The exterior design has not been changed from the previous model at the evaluation unit stage.

Mercury has an individual serial number, so the difference between the old and new models may be judged by the serial number.

Below is a comparison photo of the old model and the new model. The serial number 50553 is 2.0.

Open Audio Mercury 2.0 looks to be an attractive alternative that takes the highly regarded Mercury even further.

Large 13mm Dynamic Driver:-

The BQEYZ Summer is equipped with a large 13mm dynamic driver unit with PU+LCP composite diaphragm material. PU makes the diaphragm flexible while the LCP makes it thin, sturdy, and sensitive. It allows for a well-extended lower end with a snappy response.

Sound quality

BQEYZ Summer has a well-balanced W-shaped sound that is fairly neutral. The low and mid frequencies that are extremely faithful to the original sound are the most attractive, and for listeners who love the natural texture, it is a model that can be the most preferable partner in this price range along with the final A3000.

Please see here for detailed reviews on sound quality.

Sound quality general comment
  • Original sound fidelity: A
  • Recommendation: A+
  • Personal preference: S-

BQEYZ Summer has a fairly near-perfect neutral sound and is very good at reproducing the texture, but there are some problems with localization and the sound field is a bit cramped.

It is very excellent as a recording monitor, and it has the advantage that it is easy to grasp the whole picture of the music because it fits the whole picture of the music in a slightly compact frame with a natural texture. However, you may be disappointed that it is a little unsatisfactory in terms of scale for everyday listening.

Also, it is a slight defect that the sound is a little hard and tends to sound a little high-pitched.

Sound quality features

Pros

  • Almost perfect neutral sound
  • Natural texture
  • Proper focus on midrange
  • Good detail
  • High fidelity to the original sound
  • Lush and highly transparent midrange
  • Crisp sound
  • High clear feeling

Cons

  • Orientation is slightly intimate
  • The sound field is slightly bent forward and narrow
  • A little high-pitched sound

General comment

BQEYZ Summer is a new star player in the $100 range. Although it is a hybrid driver model, it has very low distortion and is almost completely neutral, so you can hear the midrange with a texture that is quite close to the original sound. The sound field is a little narrow, slightly high-pitched and stimulating, but it is a good model that realizes a wonderful sound for everyone.

In this article, we will focus on the FiiO FD1. FiiO is one of China's top audio brands, and especially in the field of digital audio players (DAPs), FiiO is a reigning market winner alongside Sony and Astell & Kern. On the other hand, FiiO also continues to actively develop products in the field of earphones, and continues to provide the world with products with high build quality and sound quality.

The FiiO FD1 is the talk of the town because of its beryllium-coated dynamic drivers.

Unboxing

The package for the earbuds is pretty plush, above the norm for this price range: two S/M/L silicone ear tips (red axis/gray), a foam-type earpiece, a manual, and a pelican-type carrying case. Frankly, it's a much more luxurious package for a sub-$100 package. The Pelican case in particular is easy to carry along with the earpieces, which I'm personally happy about.

In terms of sound signature, when viewed as a whole, it has a gentle U shape with good balance in each register, but there is a pinpoint emphasis on the weight of the low frequencies and the brilliance of the high frequencies, so I think it sounds rather V-shaped. To me, the sound sounds a bit dry, but the midrange is forward and sufficiently clear, with plenty of height and airiness, and the soundstage is rather open.

hifigo.com

The low end is deep and slightly weighted, with a geothermal feel and warmth. In general, the bass is darker and has more body emphasis and feels more stable, but I personally find the edges to be a bit subdued and somewhat docile. The bass drum kick is rather clear and weighted, so the rhythms in the low range will sound lively. Overall, the emphasis is on weight and heat, so it may be a little noisy for some people in rock music.

The heat in the low range blends into the midrange a bit in some cases, but the midrange is reasonably separate from the low range and has plenty of clarity. The vocals are a bit far out, but there is enough sweetness and the body is rich and plush and glossy. It's not at the forefront, so it's not sparkling and lively, but it's still sufficiently coquettish and the vocal nuances aren't bad. Generally, the consonants are not sharp and a little upward but it is not shouty and comfortable to listen to. It is relaxed and only a little breathing is emphasized. The vocal area is not muddy or hard to hear, but it is not so clean.

The mid-high frequencies are sufficiently forward leaning, contributing to the glare, attack and sharpness of the sound. You'll also get a good sense of depth, and you'll feel enough space in front and back around the vocals. The highs are a bit flashy and shimmery and crisp, but the warmth of the low end balances out and doesn't feel painful to the ears. The hi-hats are rather silky and crisp, or rather crunchy and fine detailed.

The balance is rather good, with good dynamism and airiness, but with a mildness that is moderately adjusted for listening comfort.

FiiO FH1s vs FiiO FD1

The graph above shows the free-field-corrected frequency response of FH1s and FD1s, adjusted to cross at 1khz. The eartips are AET07.

In the big picture, the FiiO FH1s generally have better mid-range clarity and vocal appeal, while the FD1s are more V-shaped, with more heat and weight, especially in the low frequencies. If you like a crisper, clearer sound, you'll like the FH1s, and if you like a hotter, warmer, tighter sound in the midrange, you'll like the FD1s.

Final verdict

Comprehensive evaluation: ★★★★★

For a price of less than $100, these earphones have a satisfying package content and quality, and the sound quality is rather balanced, and on top of that, you can fully enjoy the dynamism of the earphones. They are also high-resolution certified, so even if you say "I won't buy them unless they're high-resolution earphones," you can buy them with confidence. The biggest competitor is the same FiiO FH1s, which are comparable in packaging and build quality. The sound quality of the FiiO FH1s is more transparent in the midrange, so if you're looking for vocals, piano, or a brighter soundstage, you might want to choose the FH1s.

In terms of sound signature, when viewed as a whole, it's almost flat, with a shape that can be described as slightly U-shaped. There's a good sense of focus in the midrange, with vocals sounding gentle, sweet and clean, but it's easy for some people to hear the sound clustered a bit in the midrange.

hifigo.com

There is very little emphasis in the low frequencies and there is a sense of perspective, with the sound falling flat as it is from the midrange. Layering is good and contours sound clean, but it lacks a bit of weight and may be a bit lacking in terms of depth. It sounds a bit bright and monitored low end. Moderately warm, but not very hot. It may be a little muddy in the lower midrange, but the midrange is clear enough for most songs.

The midrange has a natural warmth to it, almost neutral. The vocals come to the fore and sound lively with just the right amount of nuance, but the body is moderate or slightly less and slightly slimmer and rather clean. The midrange sounds tend to be slightly dry, and the acoustic guitar and piano are rather tight. The snare is also crisp and easy to hear with an emphasis on snappiness.

There is a quietness in the upper midrange and the area around the vocals is fairly clean. Instrumental sounds line up behind the vocals and sound with a sense of depth. There is an emphasis on the metallic sheen, and the instrumental sounds have a bit of hard emphasis and sparkle to the contours of the piano and other instruments, but they are well tuned in the direction of high vocal priority, so the vocals don't get too much of a rush and muddle into the instrumental sounds.

Female vocals sound rather high in the overall sound field, so you may not feel the spatial height of the sound, but you can feel the depth and width. Also, the calming of the ultra-high frequencies gives a sweetness to the midrange sound. The sound image in the midrange is clear and distinct, with a slightly thicker outline. It is a typical DUNU monitor sound that combines naturalness and clarity at an affordable price. The midrange assembly in particular is good and structured.

DUNU's new series is very good quality, both in build quality and sound quality, and they look very well made. I was captivated by the eye-popping blue ear shells that resemble lapis lazuli. The sound quality is close to neutral, especially in the midrange, and the solid, thick sound sounds are appropriately tight and polite, making them an attractive choice for a vocal earphone.

TANCHJIM, like Moondrop, is well known for its references to the Herman Target Curve, and TANCHJIM HANA, in keeping with the brand's heritage, follows the Herman Target Curve quite closely, with tuning that is close to a flat balance in the diffuse sound field. The sound is also very close to flat at the free field correction. The sound is close to flat and slightly U-shaped even during free field correction.

hifigo.com

There is a bit of emphasis and weight in the low frequencies, a bit deep, but basically good visibility and clear layering. It's relatively transparent and tight in the low frequencies, with a bit of warmth. It has a smooth response, although you may think the sound is slightly lacking in thickness as it shows consideration for the cleanliness of the midrange.

The midrange is tighter and a little drier and cleaner. Vocals and instrumental sounds are a bit sharp, with a bit of nuanced emphasis and slim extension in the vocals and a slight sense of stretching up and down and detail in the instrumental sounds as well. There is a good sense of depth and width to the soundstage and a good sense of perspective. There is a decent amount of stability in the vocals, but the body may be a bit lacking and it may sound a bit shouty in some songs.

The highs are sprawling and reasonably open. There is an emphasis on the glare, and there is a metallic feel to the cymbals and acoustic guitars, which may sound a bit rough and coarse. The sound is glossy and the particle tends to be delicate, and it feels a bit loud, but it's airy and clean.

Overall, a clean space is achieved and has a crisp and clear outlook to the sound. If you like the atmosphere of the space to sound clear and clean, I can highly recommend it.

Comparison with Moondrop Starfield

Compare this to Moondrop Starfield, which is close in price and also references the Harman target curve.

blog.ear-phone-review.com

TANCHJIM HANA vs Moondrop Starfield

The graph above shows the free-field-corrected measurement graph adjusted to cross at 1khz using the AET07 eartips.

Now, in terms of sound quality, the two are so similar that they are almost interchangeable. The TANCHJIM HANA sounds louder, more coloured and more enjoyable to my ears, and it sounds better in terms of resolution, but frankly it doesn't seem to be that much of a difference.

However, in terms of package content and build quality, HANA is clearly superior, and the difference is more than just price. Unlike Starfield's ramen-like cables, which tend to tangle easily, HANA's cables are slimmer and smoother to handle, the carrying case is generous in size, and the quality is gorgeous. If you consider only the sound quality, Starfield is much cheaper, but if you take into account the ease of use, HANA is better than Starfield in terms of overall price, because you don't have to spend money to upgrade to a better cable.

Overall, it has a fairly flat sound signature, which could be described as a bit of a U shape. The lower midrange is recessed but the upper midrange is forward and the midrange sounds clear and transparent.

hifigo.com

The low end has good layering and a rather straightforward depth to it. There is a moderate weight, and the kick is clear and tends to be tight with good sharpness. The bass is also rather clear, but I feel that it is not as thick as it should be. There is some heat in the lower low end of the range, but it hardly bleeds into the midrange because the lower midrange is clean.

The midrange is transparent, fairly clean and rather tight. There is an emphasis in the vocal band, so the vocals sound quite bright up front. There is very little sense of burial, even in rock songs with a noisy low frequency. The vocals sound brighter and more energetic with an upward tendency, and are moderately extended with a slightly upbeat tone. It has a slightly coquettish and flirtatious flavor, and sounds slightly younger with a glossy feel. If you like glossy vocals, I recommend these earphones, and you will be able to hear dynamic vocals in pop star songs and bright anime songs to your heart's content. However, depending on the song, the body of the music may become a little thin and the consonants may be sharp, and the T and S may sound a little irritating. The midrange is separated from the low range and a little buoyant, so some people may hear the sound gathered in the high range in terms of sound density.

The highs are probably handled by the piezo drivers, but they have a tight, piezo-like sound. The mid and high frequency peaks seem to come over the vocals a bit, and there's a bit of congestion around the top of the vocals. However, the vocals are firmly prioritized, so the sound isn't so crowded. Personally, I find the clues to be rather enjoyable. The glare feels a little bit more pronounced, the edges of the acoustic guitars and so on are rather noticeable, and there's also a moderate snappiness to the snare. The highs maintain a moderate distance from the mids, emphasizing details and edges while complementing the presence of the mids, and the separation is quite good.

I think the overall range is good and the verticals sound rather well organized. The low end is deep and the high end is a little closer to the midrange, but the upper midrange is clearly dominant in terms of power, and the sound is brighter and clearer to enjoy vocals and midrange sounds. It seems to be a good match for bright female vocal songs in particular, and you can enjoy EDM comfortably.

The model to be discussed this time is TIN HIFI T2 PlusTinHiFi is a Chinese manufacturer of in-ear monitors (IEMs) and has been providing OEM/ODM products, but in 2017 they launched their own brand, TinHiFi, which quickly became famous among audiophiles due to its good cost performance.

The TinHiFi T2 Plus is an upgraded version of the brand's flagship TinHiFi T2 double dynamic driver earphones.

Unboxing

The packaging is higher quality than standard for this price range and seems to be rather luxurious on the unpacking experience. The accessories are adequate, but the lack of a carrying case may be disappointing to some people.

The build quality of the unit is good. The cable quality is also excellent for the price range and handles well, and probably doesn't require an upgrade.

Fit

The housing has been replaced with a sleeker design compared to the martial cylindrical design of the T2. It sits well in the ear. The metal casing is sturdy, but the aluminum casing is lightweight and compact, so even if your ears are small, you'll be able to wear them without any problems and without feeling overwhelmed.

Overall, the sound signature is pretty close to flat, and could be described as slightly U-shaped. The midrange sounds relatively forward.

hifigo.com

Low frequency layering is good, the contours are crisp and the outlook is relatively good. The low frequencies can be described as rather monitor-like, and the deep geothermal heat is not strong and the noisiness is not as strong. The electric bass sound is a bit brighter and the kick is a bit heavy, but it sounds crisp and rhythmically oriented. The low frequency strings are weighted and a bit thicker, but the denseness is moderate and transparent. The low range is rather tight.

The midrange sounds rather clean due to the recesses in the lower midrange and the valleys in the direction of the high frequencies. The contours are slightly firmer and provide a solid sound image with a crisp sound. Cues are slightly more and the sense of detail will sound good. The vocals are clean and have a brighter tone with emphasis on nuance. It tends to sound slightly husky and over-breathed, the sax lines may sound a little more emphatic and a little more spiteful, but the delivery is clear and the lyrics are easy to hear.

The upper mid-range troughs bring a moderate sense of depth and silence to the sound field and provide vocal focus. From the mid-high range to the high range, there is a rather straightforward and straightforward sense of separation with few peaks. However, the coloration is a bit subdued and the midrange may seem like a watercolor painting. The glare is a little stronger, with chatter on the edges of electric guitars and moderate silvery glare on hi-hats and acoustic guitars, and a clearer outline. The cues are more solid and a bit sharp with a tighter sound. The graininess is fine and the cymbal has a pleasantly stimulating feel that is distinctly prickly.

The overall sound field sounds a bit dry and deep, and I think it sounds a bit slim. If you like a spontaneous and smooth sound, I can highly recommend this model. The transients are good, and the sound is crisp and tight in both the high and low ranges, which gives you a pretty good sense of rhythm. If you want to feel a lively sense of rhythm, these are the preferred earphones.

Comprehensive evaluation: ★★★★★

It has excellent contour and rhythm, and is very well constructed with excellent solid detail in its price range. It has excellent vocal nuances, and although the body is a bit thin, it's also rather easy to recommend it as a vocal earphone. In terms of build quality and packaging, it's well within the norm for its price point, and it's rather luxurious and satisfying. The layering and contouring are good, with a good sense of cues, and this is a product that will fully satisfy listeners who want to listen to the sound image and rhythm in a clean, airy space.

All in all, the sound signature is pretty close to flat and could be described as a gentle U shape. Midrange focus is good.

hifigo.com

The low frequencies are weighted and expansive, rather gentle and elastic. Bass drums and low frequency strings tend to sound swollen and swollen, so they float well and support the midrange well. Hot air is reasonably well controlled and not excellent in layering, but it doesn't bleed into the midrange, and the contours of the low frequency sounds are relatively clear. It's not a great low frequency prospect, but it's not too muddy and has plenty of live presence. However, it can sound a bit noisy in some places, and some people will think it sounds like a sand bath.

The midrange connects well with the low end, sounding thick, sweet and full, while the upper midrange and high midrange are quiet and tighter sounding due to the quietness of the upper midrange. The vocals are plump and warm, with plenty of sweetness and rich body. The vocals are rational, and the instrumental sounds are stable and rich, with a solid, rich sound. It seems to work well with pop music.

The mid-highs are quiet and tight, and vocal focus is good. The highs are tight, with violin and woodwinds sounding slim and extended, and the hi-hat is calm and less glare, quiet and transparent, but sounds stringy and fibrous.

As a whole, it is finished in a warm sound, and realizes a slim sound that emphasizes quietness and tightness. The sound design is slim and long, and the vocals have a sweetness and no consonant peaks, but you can enjoy the singing voice that is vertically long and with a high level of breath. It is a sound field with a high sense of density in the low frequency range, but with a sense of depth, it is inclined a little in the back and has an appropriate width.

In terms of sound signature, the overall shape is a gentle U shape that is almost flat. It is easy to be rather aware of the air in the high frequencies and the lush midrange sounds neatly and clean.

hifigo.com

The low frequency range extends rather flat to deep and has a good outlook, but the weight is not emphasized and there's not much heat. It's rather monitored, but there's a slight sense of warmth and slight swelling, so it's a bit warmer to the bottom of the midrange, which is about the temperature of moderate.

However, when you come to the band where the vocals and guitars are, the space is pretty clean. Vocal focus is pretty good, and you can enjoy a slightly woozy, sweet tone to your voice. Consonants are a bit sharp, especially in the sah line, which is a bit tight, but probably not gratingly unpleasant for most people. The breath is extended and crisp. Nuances are good, and the female vocals sound lively and a bit young. The midrange is well colored and lush sounding, and there is a soft, watery, fullness to the electric guitar edges and the sheen of the piano notes. The midrange clarity is very good, and the instrumental sounds are a little stiff in their contours, but they are crisp, and the snare sounds pretty good in its attack and has plenty of power.

The calming of the mid-high frequency range prevents peaks in the midrange, and despite the fine detail and delicacy of the sound, there is no sharpness in the instrumental sound, and the hi-hat is rather silky and clear with a sense of transparency. The space is bright enough, with an excellent sense of perspective, and the soundstage seems wide.

The bass range is not a deep-digging, but the range is good, the soundstage is well-defined, and it's an excellent vocal phone, with just the right amount of warmth and fullness, yet with very good detail. In particular, those who like a crisp, clear sound with good contouring and a solid, well-colored sound image and no sense of distortion will find it hard to believe that they are in the $100 range. The piezo drivers honestly contribute to the clarity of the space and are well tuned.

However, the contour of the sound is strong and the feeling of being pushed out is strong, so you may easily get tired of listening to it than you expected. If you think the sound is a little harsh, you may get a more stable feeling of listening comfort by using the attached foam type.

Comprehensive evaluation: ★★★★★

Frankly speaking, the quality is high in terms of build quality and sound quality, and it is an earphone with a very high degree of perfection for the under $200 range. This is a clear and distinct sound, so I recommend these earphones to people who want to listen to the clarity of the sound image, and in EDM, this is the model that lets you hear the particle of the digital sound to the fullest. The impression is that the contour is a little clearer and the transient sound is stronger, and it is easy to sound digital, but this may be a drawback.

The packaging is gorgeous for this price point. It comes in a hexagonal box, a common feature of Kinera products these days, and if you just look at the outside of the package, it looks like a high-end candy. There's also an adapter for connecting your smartphone to the box, which can only be described as gorgeous.

The build quality of the body is already of high-end quality. The design is glittering and elegant, like mother-of-pearl inlay, and looks like a piece of jewelry. The slim cable is moderately stretchy and easy to handle, and the coating is smooth and tangle-free.

Overall, it has a near-flat sound signature, which could be described as slightly U-shaped. However, the mids are full enough, the vocals come forward and the sound is transparent. Some people may find the sound concentrated in the midrange, but the low end is relatively separate from the midrange, the high end is airy, the range is good and the sound doesn't seem to be so concentrated in the midrange. It's a well-balanced sound that may sound quite flat to some people.

hifigo.com

The bass range is well layered and slightly warm, but the bass drum kick is rather a bit tight. The contours are rather solid, but there's a good amount of weight and a bit of fullness, and the sound is thick and well-bodied. The geothermal heat isn't very strong, so you could say it's monitor-like. The electric bass has a bit of warmth and is reasonably deep, but not too deep and not too buzzing.

The midrange is reasonably well separated from the low frequencies by the lower midrange troughs and is tight, but the vocals are sufficiently forward and there is a reasonable amount of clarity in space. Still, there is a bit of low frequency heat bled in the lower midrange, but it contributes to the sweetness of the midrange. The power balance between the instrumental sounds and the vocals is about 50:50, and on songs where the drums are thicker, the low frequencies may sound a bit on the vocals, but basically it sounds good in focus. The vocals tend to be a little more pronounced on the S notes and the endings sound a little stretched out, but there is no sibilance.

The high frequencies feel spacious and airy. There is a slight emphasis on the glare, but it maintains a moderate sense of depth that is hard to take on vocals. The acoustic guitars and hi-hats are a bit finer and more subtle in their grain, but the sound is basically clean without being too flashy and doesn't seem to disrupt the vocal focus.

The overall composition is warm and relatively neutral in the low range, clean and transparent in the midrange, and airy and delicate in the high range, with finely tuned highs that complement the midrange. The soundstage has a slightly larger margin around the midrange vocals, giving an excellent sense of perspective in the midrange. I was particularly impressed with the spontaneity of the vocals, the high breath and sweet nuances of the vocals, and the chorus of Yoshitaka Suzuki's "Battle at the Big Bridge - Ver.1 - FFRK Ver. arrangement" was very lively. The electric guitar also has a certain appeal.

Final verdict

Comprehensive evaluation: ★★★★★

When someone asks, "Do you have a recommended earbud for a budget of $300 or less?", there is no doubt that the Kinera Freya is one of the first earbuds I think of when someone asks me, "What's the difference between a pair of headphones that have better resolution than most sub-$200 earbuds, better balance, and a beautiful, crystal-clear sound quality for vocals, but also better build quality than the Kinera Freya. You can't complain about them - they rival high-end models and the packaging is gorgeous. These attractive earphones make you want to carry them with you.

First impression

This time, I checked the first impression using the white silicon M size in the standard ear tip.

Very delicate but slightly thin, vocals are husky and easily hoarse(AKINO×AKINO「月明かりのMonologue」)

月明かりのMonologue

月明かりのMonologue

You might think that the melody of an acoustic guitar is so delicate that the graininess is incredibly beautiful. However, the violin sound is not thick enough, and it may be divided into tastes because it is quite thin, is slender and easy to hear hysterically.

The cleanliness around the vocals is high, and I think you can hear the vocals clearly even if the volume is low. However, the body is thin, a little husky, and maybe overall it may seem faint. The low range is deep, and you can feel a wide range, but the sound is not full, and you'll hear it's quite squished in the midrange.

You may get the unnatural impression that the sound is pulled a little in the high frequency direction.

Sharp, clear, speedy rock sound(鈴木克崇「 決戦 FFRK Ver. arrange from FFVI」)

決戦 FFRK Ver. arrange from FFVI

決戦 FFRK Ver. arrange from FFVI

There is a deep bass tone, and this song feels warm. The hi-hat is delicate and the snare is heard by the snappy, giving a sense of speed. If you want to listen to a so-called metal type rock with a sense of speed, I think this earphone can be quite attractive. The edge of the electric guitar is also fine, the distortion is a little flashy, and it sounds bright and fun.

However, there is not much profoundness, and the sound is slightly slender overall.

Light rhythm, bright transparency(fhána「ユーレカ」)

ユーレカ

ユーレカ

The rhythm line in the high range has the impression of being delicately decomposed, and I think that the wind instrument feels a lot of overtones. Vocals are a bit slender with emphasis on consonants and may sound a little hysterically stretched up on a husky. The vocals are a little backward, but the vocal is rather rational and natural, and the body feels a little, so it may not be so harsh, but I feel that it is a bit gritty.

The mid-to-high range is relatively calm, so you may not feel the peak feeling as bright as it looks, but you may still feel the consonants are sharp or jerky, so you may feel restless.

Momentary delicate sound(富田美憂「Present Moment」)

Present Moment

Present Moment

In this song, the consonants of vocals tend to be hiss. The sound field is clean in the midrange and has a strong sense of rising, with sound coming out above. The snare rhythm is light and fast, and the strings sound a little hysterical. The sound field is dry and doesn't feel very moist. The more you get used to it, the more it will calm down, but I feel that it has a slightly gritty atmosphere.

However, the electrostatic particles are good, and I think it will be welcomed by listeners who value such delicacy.

Summary

For those who like the warm sound of the Tri i3 and Tri i4, it's an analytical sound in a different direction, and you might be surprised at the extreme change in tone quality. It's the current flagship model of the Tri, but it's clearly different from the sounds of the Tri so far. It seems that the bright sound using the electrostatic type, which emphasizes the resolution considerably, still has different tastes.
